UFC London Picks for Leon Edwards vs. Sean Brady and Other Fights on March 22

Leon Edwards vs. Sean Brady – “Rocky” to Prove Oddsmakers Wrong

Leon Edwards is a betting underdog with UFC London odds of +125, which may seem strange given that he’s a former welterweight champ. But it’s the way he lost the championship belt that makes oddsmakers doubt his chances.

As a reminder, Belal Muhammad dethroned “Rocky” last year via unanimous decision, thanks to completely outwrestling the Englishman. He landed nine takedowns that evening – the most Edwards has ever suffered in his 14-years-long professional MMA career.

The reason this needs to worry him is that on March 22, he’s locking horns with an elite grappler/wrestler. The man in question is Sean Brady, a BJJ black belt under Daniel Gracie, who’s 17-1, with his only loss coming to Muhammad by TKO.

This guy averages 3.5 takedowns per 15 minutes and has secured 12 in his last two fights. Still, the fact is that he’s never fought someone of Edwards’ caliber. His biggest win was against an aging Gilbert Burns, who was on a two-fight skid.

Meanwhile, “Rocky” has fought (and won against) some real good grapplers and wrestlers, including Colby Covington, Kamaru Usman, and Gunnar Nelson.

Jan Blachowicz vs. Carlos Ulberg – Jan’s Swan Song

Jan Blachowicz, now 42, is still ranked No. 3 in the UFC Light Heavyweight Division. However, he hasn’t won a fight in nearly three years, losing to Alex Pereira by split decision in 2023.

Before that loss, he held off Magomed Ankalaev to a split draw in 2022. This makes him the only fighter since 2018 to face the current champ and stay undefeated.

He’s also the man who practically kicked off Israel Adesanya’s downfall after beating him in 2021.

Obviously, he knows how to handle prolific kickboxers, so the fact that Carlos Ulberg is a high-volume striker with 7.20 significant strikes per 60 seconds does not scare him.

Given that a loss to Carlos Ulberg would mean the end of Jan’s championship dreams, you can expect him to go all-in on March 22.

Gunnar Nelson vs. Kevin Holland – Grappling vs. Striking

Gunnar Nelson is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Renzo Gracie with a 66% win-to-submission rate. He’s a two-time No-Gi Pan American champ, who’s already chocked out 13 opponents in his pro MMA career.

He’s elite on the ground but struggles in striking, absorbing 3.00 strikes per minute while landing just 1.84. Despite his karate background, he has lost to top strikers like Leon Edwards, Santiago Ponzinibbio, and Rick Story.

Now, he’s meant to fight another fantastic striker. The man in question is Kevin Holland, who’s 14/26 when it comes to KO/TKO wins.

However, he’s on a rough 1-4 run, coming off a first-round submission loss to Reinier de Ridder in January. That loss is for our UFC London pick – it showed his vulnerability against high-level grapplers.

We think that Nelson is at least as good in the clinch and on the ground as RDR. That’s why our prediction is another loss by submission for Holland.
