Event Preview
The second Grand Slam event on the tennis schedule for 2025 gets underway at the end of May. It is the only Slam of the season to be staged on a clay surface, making for grueling matches throughout the competition.
Carlos Alcaraz is the reigning French Open champion after beating Alexander Zverev in the 2024 final. The Spanish star has an 86% win rate at the Grand Slam, reaching at least the quarterfinal stage in each of the last three years.
However, his recent form would raise questions after early eliminations in each of the Miami Open, Indian Wells Masters, and Qatar Open.
Jannik Sinner has made unwanted history this year after being handed a doping ban. However, the Italian has been excellent in Grand Slam events over the last couple of years, winning the Australian Open twice and the US Open in 2024.
Novak Djokovic continues to play at a very high level after reaching the semi-final Down Under earlier this year. He has won two of the last four editions of the French Open, and boasts an 86% win rate at Roland Garros.
Men’s French Open Picks
Holger Rune enjoyed an excellent run to the final at Indian Wells this year, and he looks like a Grand Slam winner in waiting.
The 21-year-old has reached the quarterfinal stage in two of his three French Open appearances, and he has reached two Masters 1000 Finals on the clay. He could be set to make his big breakthrough at Grand Slam level this year.
