One of the games on tap from Thursday night’s NBA slate features the Boston Celtics hosting the Dallas Mavericks. Can Boston stay hot in our Celtics vs Mavericks pick?
Celtics Aiming For Fifth Consecutive Victory
After a two-point loss against the Houston Rockets a little over a week ago, the Celtics have reeled off four straight wins, including a 112-105 victory against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Jayson Tatum did a little bit of everything, finishing with 22 points, seven assists, four rebounds, two steals, and two blocked shots.
Derrick White scored 20 points and collected five rebounds. Kristaps Porzingis added 19 points and seven boards, while Jaylen Brown contributed 16 points, nine rebounds, and six assists.
Boston held a 12-point advantage through the first three quarters of action. Cleveland battled back, though, trimming the double-digit deficit to four points and appeared to have seized the momentum.
Fortunately, White hit a pair of back-to-back 3-point baskets, giving the Cs a 10 points lead with 2:41 left to play.
Mavericks Look To End Three-Game Skid
Conversely, the Mavericks are trending in other direction. After a 137-136 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Jan. 29, Dallas has dropped its past three games, including a 118-116 setback against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Kyrie Irving put on a show, scoring 34 points along with nine rebounds and four assists on 11-for-21 shooting from the field.
Dallas also got a couple solid contributions from its bench. Naji Marshall finished with a stat line of 19 points, five assists, four rebounds, and three steals.
Max Christie — who the team recently acquired as part of the Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade — added 15 points, nine boards, and five dimes. He shot 5-for-8 overall, including a 4-for-4 effort from 3-point range.
Dallas trailed by seven points in the fourth quarter, but cut the deficit to one point. Unfortunately, the Mavs turned the ball over on their final possession, allowing the Sixers to hold on for a two-point win.
Dallas is now 0-2 since dealing Doncic to the Los Angles Lakers.
Celtics vs Mavericks Pick: Boston Gets The Win Against Reeling Dallas
The Celtics are 7-3 across their last 10 contests. Additionally, they are a top-5 team at both ends of the floor, which means you can never count them out.
Meanwhile, Dallas has posted a 4-6 record in its previous 10 outings. Although they have the seventh-best offensive rating, this group is ranked 16th in points allowed and 14th in defensive rating.
Furthermore, the Mavericks are 12-15 on the road. With that in mind, the Celtics are on track to win their fifth straight game.
