- Texas stunned #2 South Carolina on Sunday, defeating them 66-62.
- Kentucky came up a bit short at Ole Miss, losing by a score of 66-57.
- These two teams last met on November 24, 2007, in a game Texas won 72-70.
A top-10 clash takes place in the SEC between two up-and-coming squads. In our Texas vs Kentucky pick, the Wildcats will be put to the test offensively against the Longhorns’ stellar defense.
Texas Seeks to Keep Rising
Texas did the impossible on Sunday, snapping defending champion South Carolina’s 57-game winning streak in regular season SEC play. The newest addition to the conference staked their claim as a top contender in this win, once again leaning on their superb defense.
Texas needed their defense to be at its best to defeat the Gamecocks with G Rori Harmon continuing to struggle with her shooting. She went 1-9 on Sunday and is 18-62 (29%) from the field in the Longhorns’ last 7 games. F Madison Booker has been picking up the slack on offense.
Kentucky Aims for Home Win
Kentucky rose to #8 in the top-25 following ranked wins over Alabama and Oklahoma last week. Unfortunately, they were defeated by unranked Ole Miss a few hours after the new rankings were released. The Wildcats have a chance to salvage their ranking if they can topple Texas.
Kentucky’s typically consistent offense is its greatest asset. It will be an intriguing matchup to see experienced transfers Georgia Amoore and Teonni Key go up against Texas’ suffocating defense. A win would keep Kentucky in the top-10, but another loss would drop them outside the top-15.
Texas Longhorns vs Kentucky Wildcats Pick
Home-court advantage is especially present in college basketball, giving Kentucky an advantage in this game. That being said, they face an uphill battle against the #3 team in the country. After struggling offensively against Ole Miss, the Wildcats will be vulnerable against Texas. We’ll take the Longhorns on the road.
