Event Preview
Another thrilling season of Formula 1 action gets underway in mid-March, with the Australian Grand Prix forming the first race of the season. Drivers will compete over a total distance of 190.216 miles, and there is a wide-open feel to this race.
Little was learned at pre-season testing last week, with McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull all keeping their cards very close to their chest. However, there was certainly optimism surrounding McLaren’s long runs in Bahrain.
Therefore, Lando Norris could be very difficult to bet against if showing that same pace in Melbourne. But, it’s highly likely that Red Bull and Ferrari were both holding their pace back.
If there was one team that caught the eye at pre-season testing in Bahrain then it was the new-look partnership between Russell and Antonelli in the Mercedes. There were no major issues with either car, and they looked to have a competitive pace over a one-lap spin.
Ferrari also had no major issues in their fact-finding mission, and there were clear positives in Lewis Hamilton’s easy introduction to life in the most famous car on the grid.
Qualifying will be vitally important, as it will be the first time in 2025 that we will see all cars tuned up for maximum performance. But, the pecking order could remain the same as the end of last season.

The time sheets may have shown McLaren as the fifth fastest car at pre-season testing, but that only hid how quick the reigning champions were in terms of race pace.
