There are under two months to go before the 2025 edition of the Kentucky Oaks, and one of the notable preps will be staged in Louisiana this weekend.

The G2 Fair Grounds Oaks have produced eight previous winners of the Churchill Downs race, which includes legendary fillies such as Rachel Alexandra, Proud Spell, and Believe You Can. But, which three-year-old can join the esteemed roll of honor in 2025?

Event Preview

The G2 Fair Grounds Oaks has been a notable prep ahead of the Kentucky Oaks throughout its history, and there will be major clues ahead of the first Classic of the season this weekend.

Brad Cox has an excellent record in this race, and he tends to send one of his leading Oaks chances to Fair Grounds. Therefore, Good Cheer demands huge respect on Saturday.

The three-year-old filly is unbeaten under rules, and has won in stakes company in each of her last three starts. The most notable form line comes on her latest start after beating Gowells Delight in the G2 Rachel Alexandra over course and distance. Rock solid claims to replicate that feat.

Secret Faith looks set to be one of the most interesting alternatives this weekend for trainer Jayde Gelner. The three-year-old has been clocking some very respectable speed figures at a lesser level, and she was last seen beating Blue Fire in the LA Bred Premier Night Starlet Stakes. However, a major concern would be that this weekend’s race represents a steep step up in trip.

Ahavah is highly regarded by connections, and she could be anything for Cherie DeVaux. The three-year-old has only made one previous start, beating a weak field over six furlongs in a maiden special weight at Fair Grounds. However, there could be further progression now up in trip based on her pedigree.

Fair Grounds Oaks Picks

I think we could see a potential Kentucky Oaks contender emerge this weekend at Fair Grounds. Good Cheer looks primed for a big run for a yard that knows what it takes to win this race.

Bettors looking to complete an exacta may be tempted by Bless The Broken, who should strip fitter following her third in the G2 Rachel Alexandra.
