Jays’ Berrios Hopes For 3rd Straight Solid Start

The Blue Jays had an up-and-down week on the field. After winning the first three games of their series against the Red Sox, they lost the finale. The opener in Baltimore was rained out, and they lost on Saturday. For Sunday’s game, they will start Jose Berrios.

The veteran righty was shaky in his first start against these same Orioles, giving up 6 runs on 9 hits in 5 innings. His last two starts have been much better, including 7 innings against Boston, surrendering 4 hits and 1 run.

Berrios has an extensive history against the Orioles. Cedric Mullins is 9 for 29 with a double and a home run. Ryan O’Hearn is 11 for 34 with 2 homers. Adley Rutschman is 15 for 25 with 4 home runs.

The big news this week for the Blue Jays was keeping Vladimir Guerrero Jr. off the free agent market and away from other MLB teams. It is a 14-year, $500 million deal with a $325 million signing bonus paid off in increments for tax purposes. This removes the threat of losing their star bat.

Baltimore Has Been Struggling All Around

The Orioles’ pitching has been shaky, and their offense has been inconsistent. For their Sunday tilt with the Blue Jays, they send lefty Cade Povich to the hill. Povich was shaky in his first start against the Red Sox. he gave up 3 runs on 5 hits in 4.1 innings. In his second start, he managed to get through 6 innings but surrendered a whopping 12 hits and 4 runs, though only 1 was earned.

Povich has limited exposure to the Blue Jays, though Guerrero is 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and a home run.

Baltimore is not hitting with the expected power so far this season. Jackson Holliday is going through growing pains with a .250/.268/.400 slash and 1 home run. Cedric Mullins is off to a good start with 3 homers and 14 RBIs in 50 plate appearances.

Blue Jays vs Orioles Pick: Guerrero and the Jays Will Hit Povich

Guerrero has yet to hit a home run in 2025. This is a good game for him to get going, given how well he has handled Povich in the past. The Orioles have a good history against Berrios, but they’re not hitting consistently this season. Toronto will keep the game within 1.5 runs, even if they lose.
