Greene Had His 1st Bad Start of 2025 in His Last Outing

After four starts in which he looked like a National League Cy Young Award candidate, Reds righty Hunter Greene had his first hiccup in a loss to the Orioles. He surrendered 5 runs and 6 hits in 3 innings, allowing 3 home runs.

Although the Rockies are the worst team in baseball, the game is in Colorado. That changes the landscape for any pitcher, including one who has been as good as Greene.

Several Rockies have had great success against Greene. Brenton Doyle is 2 for 4 with a double and a home run. Ryan McMahon is 1 for 7, but that 1 hit was a home run. Michael Toglia is 1 for 2 with a home run.

Given how poorly portions of the Reds’ regular lineup have been hitting, their being near .500 is an accomplishment. Their pitching from top to bottom has been very good. Still, unless Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Matt McLain, Jeimer Candelario, and Spencer Steer start hitting, they’re not getting much further than mediocrity.

The Rockies’ Situation Gets Worse and Worse

It gets repetitive to talk about the Rockies because there’s not much to say other than they lose almost every night. It wasn’t that long ago that they were back-to-back playoff participants in 2017-18, winning 87 and 91 games. Since then, it has gotten progressively worse. They are easily heading for 100+ losses in 2025.

The veteran righty Antonio Senzatela is in his ninth year with the Rockies. At times in his career, he’s pitched respectably.

So far this season, he has posted a decent 4.81 ERA (in context since he pitches his home games in Colorado). In his last start against the Nationals, he threw 6 innings, gave up 6 hits, and 1 run.

Candelario is the other Reds hitter who has gotten a hit against Senzatela. He is 8 for 20, all singles, with 2 walks and 2 K’s.

The Rockies’ offense has been woeful. Ryan McMahon is batting under .200 and leads the majors in strikeouts. Kris Bryant is so awful that he would be released were it not for his contract.

Reds vs Rockies Pick: Greene Will Get Through in Hitter-Friendly Colorado

Even with Coors Field being so friendly to hitters, Greene will rebound with a solid start. The Reds’ bats will score their runs against Senzatela and keep the Rockies plummeting.
