Event Preview

Grand Slam action on the tennis schedule resumes at the end of May, as the French Open takes place at Roland Garros in Paris. The Women’s championship has been staged annually since 1897, and this year’s competition will be the 57th event in the Open Era.

Iga Swiatek very much looks like the player to beat. The Pole has been the dominant player at the French Open in recent years, winning each of the last three editions of the Grand Slam.

Her dominance at the event is evident based on the fact that she has reached at least the fourth round on all six appearances. Her win-rate of 95% at Roland Garros is hard to overlook.

Coco Gauff could be a value play at this stage, having previously won the doubles title at the French Open. In singles competition, the American reached the final in 2022, and has reached at least the quarterfinal stage in each of the last four years.

Aryna Sabalenka also boasts strong claims. She has reached the final of five Grand Slams since the start of 2023, winning two Australian Open titles and the most recent edition of the US Open. However, her win rate on the clay at Roland Garros stands at just 70%.

Qinwen Zheng could be one of the most interesting selections, beating Swiatek at Roland Garros in the gold medal match at the 2024 Olympics. The 22-year-old has continued her growth on the court, reaching the quarterfinals in the last two editions of the US Open, and reaching a first Grand Slam final at the Australian Open last year.

Women’s French Open Picks

Iga Swiatek rarely loses at Roland Garros, and her prowess on the clay is evident after she has won the last three French Open championships.

The Pole will be a short price favorite for success this year, but she is incredibly hard to overlook when examining the most likely winner of the Grand Slam.
